About Me
My name is Thesion Marta Sianipar, a student of Data Science at Telkom University Surabaya.I started this internship as a Data Analyst Intern, a role that required an in-depth understanding of data, database exploration, and presenting insights that impact the company. Without further ado, let's dive into my journey from the beginning to the end of this internship! 🚀
The Beginning: Receiving the Exciting News
I still remember the moment I received an email from Telkom Indonesia. At that time, I had just finished my university assignment and spontaneously opened my email. My eyes immediately caught a notification: "Congratulations! You have been accepted as a Data Analyst Intern at Digital Amoeba, Telkom Indonesia." 🎉
It was a mix of emotions. Excited? Definitely! But also a bit nervous because this was a significant step in my career journey. Digital Amoeba is Telkom Indonesia’s innovation laboratory focused on digital innovation development. I was not only going to learn about data but also about how digital innovation operates within a large corporation.
I quickly shared the great news with my family and closest friends. Many congratulated and supported me, but at the same time, I felt a great responsibility—I needed to make the most of this opportunity!
First Day: Onboarding at Telkom Indonesia
On Wednesday, February 21, 2024, my internship officially began. My fellow interns and I attended the Onboarding MSIB Cycle 6 Telkom Indonesia. This event was memorable because we were introduced to Telkom’s organizational structure, work culture, and core values.
Some inspiring messages from Telkom Indonesia’s leaders that stuck with me:
- High spirit will lead you to success.
- Learning and adapting to change is the key to thriving in the digital world.
- A solid team will deliver the best performance.
We also received an introduction to the projects we would be working on and the expectations from the Telkom team regarding our contributions during the internship. I became even more motivated to give my best throughout this journey. 😊
Early Challenges: Learning SQL and Exploring Ideabox Data
This internship was not just about routine work but also about new challenges and exploration. One of my first tasks was to learn Structured Query Language (SQL) using DBeaver. I had to explore Telkom’s Ideabox database, a platform that systematically supports startup innovations.
Honestly, at first, I felt overwhelmed. I had basic knowledge of SQL, but handling large-scale data like this was something new for me. I asked many questions to my mentor and searched for references from various sources. Eventually, after weeks of deep learning, I became more confident in using SQL for data analysis and processing.
After grasping the fundamentals of Telkom’s Ideabox database, I started creating custom queries to filter data according to the team’s needs. One of my key achievements was compiling a more concise and effective report for monitoring ongoing innovations.
Dashboard Project: Turning Data into Insights
As a Data Analyst Intern, one of my main responsibilities was to develop data visualization dashboards using Tableau and Looker Studio. I had the opportunity to work on several critical dashboards, such as:
- OKR RIMS (for monitoring team achievements)
- OKR AfAM Admedika
- Registrant Analysis for Telkom Athon Batch 5
- Performance analysis of Digital Amoeba
- Real-time monitoring with Google Analytics
I learned a lot about how data could be transformed into valuable insights for decision-making within the company. It wasn’t just about processing numbers but also about presenting them in a way that was easily understood by other teams. This opportunity greatly improved my skills in data analysis and storytelling through data.
Personal Development Activities: AMASTAH, CURIOUS, and Jumpalitan
Interning at Telkom Indonesia was not just about technical work but also self-development. There were various beneficial programs, such as:
AMASTAH (Everyone is a Master)
This session covered various topics, from public speaking, habit formation, to the Japanese philosophy of happiness (Ikigai). My favorite topic was "How to be a Good Public Speaker", as I wanted to refine my public speaking skills.
CURIOUS (Corpu Sharing Insight for US)
In this program, we gained insights into career planning, post-internship challenges, and how someone could transition from an intern to founding a startup.
Jumpalitan (Friday Morning Gathering for Exercise and Networking)
This was a regular exercise program every Friday morning attended by Telkom employees. I even had the opportunity to be the Master of Ceremony (MC) at several sessions! 🎤✨
Final Moments: Offboarding and Awards
After 4-5 months, the internship flew by so quickly. Finally, it was time for the offboarding event. We held a farewell session filled with emotional moments, where each intern presented their final projects.
I also received two special awards:
🏆 The Winner Ter-HITS
🏆 Most Valuable Person in AMADATA
These awards were proof that my hard work and dedication during the internship had truly paid off. Thank you, Telkom Indonesia! 🙏
Conclusion: Valuable Lessons from This Internship
Interning at Digital Amoeba, Telkom Indonesia was not just a work experience but also a journey that changed my perspective on the professional world and digital innovation.
Here are some of the key lessons I learned:
- Data is not just numbers; it tells a story.
- Team collaboration is the key to success in any project.
- Every learning opportunity shapes us into better professionals.
- Being open to new challenges brings unexpected opportunities.
Thank you for reading my journey! I hope this can inspire those preparing for their internship or career journey. 🚀✨
